Strategic Blueprint for Korean Medical Overseas Expansion Post-COVID
The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the imperative for innovative overseas expansion models in the medical field, emphasizing the critical pillars of "Localization," "Digitalization," and "Platform Sharing." In response, K-DOC is committed to pioneering a Korean medical global healthcare expansion platform. A key component of this strategy involves the development of K-Medical Centers within shared platforms in strategic locations across Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
Development Initiative in Sanur SEZ, Bali, Indonesia
Indonesia, with the world's fourth-largest population, notable economic growth, and vast natural resources, is poised for significant future growth. The rising living standards and expanding middle class, coupled with rapid urbanization, position Indonesia as a future economic powerhouse.
In an unprecedented move, Indonesia plans to develop the Medical & Wellness Tourism Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Sanur, Bali, aiming to stimulate medical tourism. Current trends show a significant number of Indonesians seeking medical tourism opportunities in Singapore and Malaysia, which together capture 74% of the market share. However, there's a 12% market demand for medical tourism to Korea, highlighting an opportunity for redirection to Sanur SEZ.
The project includes the establishment of a cosmetic surgery center (including dental care) within the SEZ, with plans to expand into smart screening centers specializing in gastroenterology, in collaboration with local partners.
Partnership with EUROMEDICA Group for Bali Entry
A strategic alliance with the EUROMEDICA Group, a leading entity in the Indonesian medical aesthetics market, aims to create a flagship beauty hospital specializing in Korean plastic surgery and dental services. This collaboration seeks to leverage EUROMEDICA's extensive network within Indonesia to attract and serve plastic surgery and dental patients, with interest from hospitals in Thailand, Taiwan, and others in adopting the Bali Sanur SEZ model, envisioning a Korean-style wellness center within the SEZ.
K-DOC Consortium Collaboration
Following discussions with the Korean Society of Plastic Surgeons, the K-DOC Consortium has curated a network of plastic surgery specialists to support this initiative. A comprehensive list of approximately 40 plastic surgery procedures has been shared with the EUROMEDICA Group, and efforts are underway to form a cooperative body comprising skilled practitioners from Korea's leading plastic surgery hospitals. This consortium aims to facilitate local engagements and further business involvement, attracting investment to expand the cosmetic hospital in Bali Sanur SEZ and the EUROMEDICA Group network.
Enhancement of Local Medical Services and Regional Economic Development
This project collaborates with entities and organizations across various countries and regions, aiming to enhance the local medical infrastructure, improve healthcare accessibility, and stimulate regional economic development. Through infrastructure development, workforce expansion, and local business partnerships, the initiative seeks to strengthen international regional cooperation.
Anticipated Outcomes of the Expansion
The primary goal is to showcase the superiority of Korean healthcare in Indonesia and across Southeast Asia, fostering joint ventures with domestic enterprises to boost medical tourism and elevate the brand value of domestic companies. This approach is anticipated to generate new employment opportunities both domestically and internationally, contribute to the advancement of global medical service standards, and promote national interests through synergies with related industries.
